This free download of the unreleased Corea Clarke White tune, “Light As A Feather” is offered through a special promotion from Concord Music Group.
Pianist Chick Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke and drummer Lenny White are back! After the triumphant return of Return to Forever in 2008, the group decided to revisit the music from the beginning, and get back to the basics that formed their early musical relationship.
The result is Forever, a 2-disc set of 18 quintessential tunes released through Concord Jazz, a division of Concord Music Group.
Disc one is a live recording of Corea, Clarke and White’s “RTF-Unplugged” world tour in 2009, include jazz standards “On Green Dolphin Street,” “Waltz for Debby” and “Hackensack”, Corea’s classics “Bud Powell” and “Windows,” Clarke’s new composition “La Canción de Sofia” and even RTF pieces “Señor Mouse” and “No Mystery.”
Disc two is a bonus CD featuring music from the group’s first concert of the tour, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The group is joined by vocal legend Chaka Khan, violin virtuoso Jean-Luc Ponty and Return to Forever’s original guitarist, Bill Connors for a one-time gig. The preparations for the Hollywood Bowl gig were recorded at Mad Hatter Studios in Los Angeles, complete with studio banter, laughter, screaming and even Chaka meeting Jean-Luc for the first time in the studio. The last track, a new version of Corea’s classic “500 Miles High,” was recorded on the Corea, Clarke and White trio tour at the Monterey Jazz Festival.
“There was real magic,” says Clarke. “We hadn’t seen each other for a long time, and we have a lot of history at Mad Hatter. Later, Lenny took the tapes and mixed them with … recording engineer Al Schmitt. We originally didn’t intend to put this material out, but it sounded so great that we wanted to share this with our fans.”
