Back in July, a tribute concert for the late Allan Holdsworth took place at The Iridium in New York. Here’s a clip from the show featuring Holdsworth’s tune, “Water On The Brain Pt. II,” which featured some excellent solos by bassist Evan Marien and drummer Virgil Donati.

One of my favorite new discoveries is Terrace Martin & The Pollyseeds. Led by saxophonist Martin, the band blends styles a la ’70s Herbie Hancock. Bassist Brandon Eugene Owens kicks the song in with a nice melodic run before laying into a floating groove.

Shaun Munday celebrated Bill Withers’ birthday in July with this epic solo bass and vocals cover of Withers’ tune, “Use Me.” Shaun nails not only the bass arrangement but also the vocals.
