Gibson Releases LP Junior DC Bass
Gibson has released another short scale bass this year, following the announcement of the short scale Thunderbird. The new LP Junior DC Bass features a 30.5” scale, which the company explains is perfect for players with shorter arms and smaller hands.
Designed to mix elements of the Les Paul Junior guitar and the 1960 EB-0 bass, the body is solid Mahogany with glued-in Mahogany neck and Rosewood fingerboard. The bass is rounded off with a Pelham Blue nitro finish.
Pickups include a TB Plus humbucker in the neck position and a TB Mini humbucker in the bridge position. For the vintage look, Gibson added Grover shamrock-key tuners. The Gibson Les Paul Junior DC Bass comes with a hardshell case and has a street price of around $1229. For more info, visit Gibson’s website.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was the prototype Gibson made for Gene Simmons (KISS) in 1976 (which he used on the Paul Lynde Special, and briefly live). This version is an odd combination of old and new– ‘Kinda hard to understand the target audience. They should paint it black, put some body binding on it, add a pickguard, and they’d sell a ton of ’em (despite Gene rejecting it back in the day, his association is the Midas Touch)…
Meh. Aside from the body shape and color, it’s an EB3. Try again, Gibson.
