Bass of the Week: C. Eller UT2

This week we check out an innovative design out of Germany by C. Eller Design. The UT2’s striking body shape was ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in both standing and sitting position, while the lower cutaway allows for access all the way up to the bass’s 24th fret.

C. Eller UT2 Bass

The UT2 is built around a single piece of European Walnut that makes up both the body and the neck while the attached fretboard is Canadian Maple. Its look is kept natural and finished in oil.

Pickups on the bass are a pair of Delano TheXtender 5 HE dual humbuckers. Each are accompanied with a switch to toggle between parallel, serial, and single coil operation. The controls are tucked away on the bass’s side below the bridge to prevent unintentionally changing the settings.

Hardware includes an ETS bridge and Schaller Tuners.

The C. Eller UT2 is built in limited supply with a combination of CNC machining and handwork. For more info, check out the C. Eller website.

  1. I like how it looks and it would probably sound very cool, not sure I’d own one though.

  2. nice to see someone thinking outside the box, the controls at the end might take a while to get used to but if someone wants to give me one I wouldn’t refuse!

  3. What is it with those Germans and these outside the box designs….nice job. If you think this bass is unique, try Basslab, also out of Germany. I have one being built, but mine is Basslab Soul. I would love to try the C. Eller, it probably sounds great; the controls would take a minute to adjust to, but like everything else, I would. Keep it coming.

  4. I like the hidden controls – I only change my controls if I accidentally hit them – Fender Jazz – all knobs on full – all control in the fingers.

  5. I don’t like the way this bass looks at all. The head looks cool, but the rest? No thanks.

  6. Yeah, nah! Looks beautiful but reminds me too much of one of my mums hallway tables.

  7. I got an idea, let’s make a bass as weird as we can and charge out the ass for it!

  8. Hello, here is a Review from the magazine Bass Professor with some soundfiles from the Fretless-Version for you. Enjoy it :)
