Jamaaladeen Tacuma Roots New Album from Sean Noonan’s Pavees Dance

Pavees Dance: Tan Man's HatDrummer and “rhythmic storyteller” Sean Noonan and his jazz-rock band Pavees Dance have released their second album, called Tan Man’s Hat. The adventurous music runs parallel to Ornette Coleman’s harmolodic system, so it’s perfect that Noonan’s group includes the incredible bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma, who was a member of Coleman’s Prime Time group.

“Being a drummer, the bass player is like my dance partner,” Noonan says. “This music is heavily based on the drum and bass relationship, so Jamaaladeen’s voice is a dominant aspect in my instrumental writing, which is always heavily influence by harmolodic theory.”

The rhythm section of Noonan and Tacuma set the mood for vocalist Malcolm Mooney, guitarist Ava Mendoza, and keyboardist Alex Marcelo to create wild sonic atmospheres. Get a taste of the record with the track “Martian Refugee”:

Tan Man’s Hat is available now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
