Flea and the Red Hot Chili Peppers Return with “Unlimited Love”

At long last, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have returned with a full-length studio album, entitled Unlimited Love. The effort is a return to the classic lineup of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante. As such, the group’s 12th studio album has their signature sound with a new flavor.

In an interview with Radio X, Flea called the record “the best of us” and that they dug deep to make the best record they could.

“We’re always searching and yearning and we’re always trying to get better and we’re always trying to learn from our mistakes. And anything we’ve ever done that one person might say ‘That old one’s better’ and some person might think ‘Oh the new one’s better’,” he said.
“Everything is a lesson and everything is a part of us, so we’re always just trying to build on it and grow on it and add on. And you know. This is our life’s work. This is our mission. We don’t need the money.”

Flea is in top form on the album with creative bass lines and great tone. Another new aspect of Unlimited Love is his choice of bass amp. He told Bass Player Magazine editor Joel McIver that he’s switched to Ampeg SVT’s after many years of being a Gallien-Krueger endorser.

One of the standout bass moments comes in “One Way Traffic”, where Flea takes a monster solo at the 3:16 mark:
