In Flames and Bryce Paul Newman Release “Foregone”

In Flames: ForegoneIn Flames continues to charge on with their 14th studio album, titled Foregone. Mixing the melodic death metal of their early career with their more recent metalcore sound, the album reflects on the past few years with deep questions.

“What do we do with time?” vocalist Anders Fridén asked in an interview with Apple Music. “If you know your time is up, how do you act? What do you say? What do you think? Do you regret a lot of things? If we know everything is going wrong, would we change? Would we act different?”

Fridén is joined by guitarist Björn Gelotte, drummer Tanner Wayne, bassist Bryce Paul Newman, and former Megadeth guitarist Chris Broderick, who officially joined the group in 2022. This marks the first In Flames record for Broderick and the second for Newman, who joined in 2017 and is on 2019’s I, The Mask.

Newman’s rumbling bass beefs up the whole album, but gets a good chance to shine on “Cynosure.”

“This one is bass-heavy, like a tank rolling forward or something. The beginning really showcases Bryce and what he does on bass,” Fridén told Apple Music. “And obviously, Tanner is showing off his skills on this one, too. It’s almost like a drum solo after the second chorus. Vocally, I just took a step back and followed the rhythm more than anything else. It has a different vibe, but I really like how this song turned out.”

Foregone is available now on CD, vinyl, cassette, and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
