Horn-Driven Jazz and Afrobeat Shine in Kokoroko’s Live KEXP Performance of “Higher”
KEXP is a consistent source of musical discovery for me. When I saw them sharing videos of Kokoroko, the thumbnail alone got me intrigued (I’m a fan of bands with horns!)
I was glad I clicked on this performance of “Higher,” which was recorded on October 23, 2024.
The band includes Sheila Maurice-Grey (Trumpet, Vocals, Band Leader), Anoushka Nanguy (Trombone, Vocals), Tobi Adenaike-Johnson (Guitar, Vocals), Duane “Hurcs” Atherley (Bass, Vocals), Yohannes Kebede (Keyboards, Vocals), Onome Edgeworth (Percussion, Band Leader), and Ayo Salawu: (Drums, Vocals).
I’ll be looking for more from this band.
