Matthew Ramsey Brings Deep Groove to Kirk Franklin’s Tiny Desk Concert

This is a little bit of a throw back but once I realized this video never made it onto the site, I had to share it.  Even if you have seen it before, its worth revisiting.

Matthew Ramsey delivers a masterful display of gospel bass playing in Kirk Franklin’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert. His presence is felt in every groove, holding down the low end with precision, soul, and deep musicality. Filmed in Franklin’s Arlington, Texas studio, the concert features a stellar band of musicians and vocalists, with Ramsey laying down the grooves that give the performance its heartbeat.

His bass work throughout the set is a study in support and feel. With a warm tone and tight rhythmic pocket alongside drummer Terry Baker, Ramsey keeps each tune grounded and moving. His playing never overreaches, yet adds just the right amount of texture and momentum to make the songs shine. For any bassist interested in taste, tone, and musical discipline, this performance is a must-watch.
