Hear the Magic of Michael Manring’s “Blue Orleans” on Solo Bass

Here’s a gorgeous solo performance by Michael Manring, playing “Blue Orleans” from his 1989 album Toward the Center of the Night. This newly released video gives us another chance to appreciate just how deep this piece goes.

Manring plays it on his custom Zon Hyperbass, using a multi-channel output setup that brings out the full range of his sound. “Blue Orleans” flows with a spacious, almost vocal quality that makes you forget it’s just one instrument.

Manring has long been known for redefining what the electric bass can do. This tune is a great example of how he blends technique, tone, and composition into something all his own.
