Bass of the Week: Vuorensaku Guitars’ “Deep Blue 5” With Darkglass Preamp and Built-In Overdrive

The Guitar Summit is coming up this weekend in Mannheim, Germany, from September 26th to 28th. Europe’s biggest guitar show has builders from all over the world preparing their best work, and this week we’re checking out a new build by Vuroensaku Guitars.

The T.Family “Deep Blue 5” began as a design by Bass & Guitar Hub on Instagram, and was then commissioned. Built in Finland, the bass is built with local woods for a stunning look. It’s the electronics that really set it apart in the company’s T. Family line.

“The theme for this machine came from Musicman Dark Ray with built-in preamp and overdrive circuit, which are pretty rare in basses,” Vuroensaku writes. “In this T.Family version, we decided to choose the Darkglass Tone Capsule and Artec QDD-Over Drive. The pickup we chose is also pretty special and modern; it’s the Lace Alumitone Bassbar 4.5. The result is the darkest and the most aggressive bass I’ve ever created – like an old submarine device from the ’50s.”

Other features include a compound radius fretboard, Hipshot hardware, and a 33-inch scale.
