Kristoffer Chris Puts the Bass Front and Center at IN CANTO Concerts
This was my first time hearing Kristoffer Chris, and it only took a few seconds before I knew I wanted to share it. I hit play and immediately locked into the feel. The bass is clearly leading the music. Everything is built around it. The grooves are heavy with afro dance influence and they sit deep in the pocket. It moves in that way where your head starts nodding before you even realize it.
Stylistically, it really reminded me of Richard Bona. Not in a copycat way, but in that same sense of groove first playing where melody, rhythm, and feel are all happening at once. The bass is musical, expressive, and fully in charge of where the band is going. Kristoffer is playing a Fender Jazz Bass and it sounds exactly like you want it to. Clear, warm, and present without being over the top. The tone fits the music perfectly and lets the groove do the talking.
This is bass led music in the best way. It has a deep feel, strong time, and a band that knows who is steering the ship. If that is your thing, you will probably be into this one too.
