Ernie Ball Launches New Tapewound Bass Strings for Warm, Upright-Style Tone

Ernie Ball Tapewound Bass Strings

Ernie Ball has launched a new line of Tapewound Bass Strings, which they describe as ideal for a “warm, mellow tone and a soft, silky feel.” The set is available for both long scale (34″) and short scale (30-30.5″) basses.

The strings are constructed with tin-plated steel cores, wound with nickel-plated steel, and finally wrapped with black nylon, polished to a smooth finish. “The resulting sound is dark, smooth, and designed to emulate the subtle characteristics of a vintage upright bass,” Ernie Ball writes, adding that they reduce finger noise.

The Ernie Ball Tapewound Bass Strings will be shipping this summer. A price point has yet to be announced.
