Tye Zamora Battling Cancer
Tough news to report today: Former Alien Ant Farm bassist Tye Zamora is battling Stage 1 Seminoma Cancer. Zamora, who left the band in 2014, was diagnosed last month. The news came via a GoFundMe campaign.
“Last week Tye went into the hospital for what we were hoping was just a standard mass removal,” his wife Ramona shared. “Rogue cells that decided the testicles were a good place to settle. It was fairly routine and an outpatient procedure. After an hour and a half surgery and a few hours in recovery we were sent on our way and told the results of the biopsy would be ready in a week. In the meantime, sit tight and allow time for the wound to heal. The week ended today and we got the results back from the biopsy- Tye was diagnosed with stage 1 seminoma cancer.”
Zamora co-founded Alien Ant Farm on bass in 1996 and is featured on four of the band’s five albums. The group hit big in 2001 with a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” which reached number one on the US Modern Rock charts and led to a platinum record.
Fans can help by donating to Zamora’s GoFundMe fundraiser, which will be used to offset the bassist’s medical expenses.
