James Genus Anchors New Album by Robben Ford and Bill Evans
Guitarist Robben Ford and saxophonist Bill Evans teamed up to record a new album, The Sun Room, which is out now. The duo, which has often worked together over the years, recruited drummer Keith Carlock and bassist James Genus to round out the record. Genus is known for his work with artists like Lee Konitz, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, and more – not to mention his standing gig as bassist for the Saturday Night Live band.
“Having worked with many musicians in many different configurations and styles, I can say freely that this group of players has great chemistry and ability to navigate uncharted waters, which is what allows for real improvisation,” Robben Ford says. “Making this recording, playing with these guys, has been one of my favorite experiences in a long, musical life.”
The music blurs the lines between blues, jazz, and singer-songwriter. Check out the smooth and syncopated bass lines on “Insomnia”:
The Sun Room is available now on CD and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
