Bass of the Week: Saitias Guitars Lexell 5

Saitias Guitars Lexell 5 BassJapan’s Saitias Guitars recently shared their new Lexell model, and it’s a real beauty. The bass, named after a comet not seen since the 1770s, was designed as a versatile tool with the help of bassist Wakazaemon. The young bassist wanted a bass that was easy to make sound, had harmony between the fifth string and the other four strings and had a traditional design.

Saitias writes that the Lexell eventually centered on the pickup and electronics.

“The core of this sound concept is the original pickup developed in collaboration with Kariya Pickup, one of the leading pickup manufacturers in Japan,” they shared. “The polepiece is aligned with the fretboard radius of the Lexell, which will reproduce picking nuances in a balanced and musical way. It can be used either passively or actively and produces a sound that is free from habit. The Humpback Engineering preamp is what makes it so easy to create a sound. The humpback preamp is a familiar feature at Saitius, and the more demanding the environment, the more you will benefit from it. The well-targeted equalization points will intuitively guide you to the best solution for your ensemble in any situation.”

True to the traditional sense, the Lexell is built with an alder body with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. Other features include Hipshot lollipop tuners, a Hipshot KickAss bridge, and a cow bone nut.
