Mischa Marcks Releases “Other People’s Songs on BASS”

Mischa Marcks: Other People’s Songs on BASSMischa Marcks has followed up his debut album, Open Path, with a second solo bass record. However, he took a different approach this time by putting his formidable bass chops to cover songs.

Other People’s Songs on BASS poses the question, “what if some of the best top 40 songs of the last decades were recorded on solo bass?” As such, Marcks arranges songs by artists like Imagine Dragons, Lana Del Rey, Neil Young, Amy Winehouse, and more.

The world of solo bass music has come a long way over the last decade, and Marcks is proof of its musicality. Melodic and grooving, he uses loops to build up his arrangements and flesh out the songs.

“Napoleon Hill once said, ‘Our only limitations are those we set up in our own minds,’” Marcks writes in the liner notes. “I hope this collection of songs will inspire you to reassess your definition of BASS and all it is capable of.”

In addition to his own bass, Marcks welcomes guests Karl Clews and Tommy Lee Depp on the album. Check out his version of “Believer”, featuring Clews:
