Weezer’s Scott Shriner Discusses Band’s Upcoming Releases

Scott ShrinerWeezer has announced that they will be releasing a deluxe reissue of their 1996 album, Pinkerton as well as an “Odds and Ends” collection of rare tracks and b-sides sometime later this year.

“It’s a ton of B-sides from a big period of time,” bassist Scott Shriner explains. “Rivers (Cuomo) has been mostly in charge of picking which songs are gonna be on that … I played on a lot of the songs. Some of the songs were around before I was in the band. There’s so many cool things that we’ve recorded for records that never made the (albums), I think they had to get out there.”

Shriner promises new material as well. “We’re always planning and scheming something,” he said. “We’re always working on some new music. I can’t really go into any detail about that yet, but we’re all writing and working on new stuff.”

One piece of confirmed new material includes a song for the soundtrack to the upcoming “Shrek Forever After” film. Scott said the idea of making another song for the Shrek series appealed to the band since most of them have kids.
