Primal Scream Announces New Bassist
With Gary “Mani” Mounfield leaving to reunite with Stone Roses, Primal Scream have announced the bass position will be filled by Simone Butler. Butler, who will be a permanent replacement, played in London-based rock outfit Yellowire.
Butler’s first album with the group will be their upcoming 10th album, due next year. Lead singer Bobby Gillespie says the effort will be decidedly modern rock and roll.
“Pretty psychedelic rock, it’s kind of guitar-driven but we use guitars in an orchestral way, not in the normal way people make rock records,” he told Q the Music. “I think we do it in a more interesting way. We weave the guitars in with electronics and other acoustic instruments to make the core sound.”
