Genzler Amplification Announces Magellan 800 Bass Amp
After launching its initial product line earlier this year, Genzler Amplification has unveiled their first amp. The Magellan 800 is an 800-watt that features clean and drive channels for gig versatility.
The front of the amp has Mute and Pad switches with separate volume controls for each channel. Its 3-band EQ includes a parametric mid control, and larger sculpting can be had via the dual-curve variable contour circuitry. Curve A covers classic to modern sounds with a mid-scoop while Curve B is thicker to vintage with a low-mid bump and tapered top end.
Back features include an impedance selector, a headphones output, an effects loop, a footswitch output, and an XLR direct output with ground lift, pre/post EQ, and mic/line level switches. The Magellan 800 is housed in a brushed all aluminum anodized chassis. Its fitted with a thermal sensing variable speed cooling fan and weighs 6.25 pounds.
The Genzler Amplification Magellan 800 is open for pre-order and will be available in January 2016 with a street price of $759.

This is a fantastic amp. It is a two channel amp with a clean channel that reproduces the bass cleanly and very transparently and a grittier channel with adjustable gain that can get pretty close to a Larry Graham kind of rawness. For those familiar with Genz Benz products, this head is much simpler and less complicated than the Shuttle Max but far more versatile than a SL 900. A part of the beauty of this head is it’s simplicity but you can pull a very wide range of tones from this. I played it with a passive 78 Jazz as well as my active basses and it is just an amazing head. I will be keeping mine for a long time.
