Peter Hook Releases “Substance: Inside New Order” Book
New Order fans will get an inside look at the band from the perspective of bassist Peter Hook in his new book entitled Substance: Inside New Order. The 768-page documents the band’s beginnings, which grew from their previous work as Joy Division.
“We didn’t really think about it afterwards. It just sort of happened. One day we were Joy Division, then our lead singer killed himself and the next time we got together, we were a new band,” Hook wrote.
New Order went on to become one of the most influential bands of the ’80s. Their mix of post-punk and electronica helped to create a new sound, but the band’s inner turmoil was often bubbling over. Substance includes the band’s history with anecdotes, every set list, every tour itinerary, and gear lists.
Hook was fired from the band in 2007, though he has currently been touring with his band The Light to perform the music of Joy Division and New Order.
Substance is available now.
