Bass of the Week: R. Low. Vaughn 34? Scale Four-String
This week we’re checking out a slick four-stringer by R. Low. Vaughn. Built by luthier Rob Vaughn, the bass is one of his newer models.
“This particular bass is the 3rd one of that style I’ve made,” Vaughn says. “It started out as a concept for a bassist over in Britain named Alysha Moore who got the first one last summer. This bass was completed about the middle of December. I’ve been building basses for about ten years now.”
Vaughn crafted the bass with a chambered sapele body topped with hand-carved flamed maple, a flamed maple neck, and a Macassar ebony fingerboard inlaid with pearloid dots. It’s fitted with an EMG 35DC soapbar pickup in the bridge position and an EMG JX soapbar in the neck position.
For hardware, the bass includes all Hipshot with an A-style bridge, Ultralight tuners, and O-Ring Speed knobs.
