Bass of the Week: Kinal Guitars Kompact 4

This week we’re taking a look at a short scale bass from Kinal Guitars called the Kompact 4. Luthier Michael Kinal builds the scaled-down hollow body with a variety of woods, but this particular bass features a spruce top, an alder core, and a flame maple back.
The Kompact has a 30-inch scale with a maple neck and ebony fretboard. Even with the smaller design, the bass has 24 frets. Kinal fitted this model with a Hipshot bridge complete with Graph Tech Piezo pickups and a matching 3-band preamp. A natural oil and wax finish let the woodworking speak for itself.
