In Memoriam: Juan Nelson

Today we share the sad news that bass great Juan Nelson has passed away at the age of 62. A cause of death has not been announced.
Nelson is best known for his unrelenting grooves with Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals. Harper posted about his passing on social media.
“Beloved husband, father, musical genius, [Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals] band member of 27 years, and the finest man I’ve ever known,” he wrote. “It’s near impossible for me to put words to this pain and loss. Rest In Glory our beloved Reverend Juan.”
Nelson joined Harper’s band in 1994 and was the backbone of the group. In addition to the Innocent Criminals, the bassist also toured, performed, or recorded with artists including Vesta Williams, All For One, Tower of Power, Sun Bear, Neal Larson, Big Advice, Yanni, and more.

Huge loss, loved his grooves and his approach to BH’s songs. He will be missed!
Sad news indeed.
My drummer and I were just praising his playing last night! I never could have expected to see this today. Bug loss in the community.
