Hear Thundercat’s Creative Bass Lines on Mac Miller’s Posthumous “Balloonerism”

Mac Miller: Balloonerism

Seven years after his untimely passing, the estate of Mac Miller has released Balloonerism, marking the second posthumous album from the rapper. A short film has also been released as part of the project.

The album has been anticipated for over a decade. It was recorded in 2013 with some tracks leaking over the years, but nothing official. The highly creative work was important to Miller, his estate writes.

“We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist,” they shared. “Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing ‘Balloonerism’ was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world.”

Balloonerism has some incredible grooves and bass lines, thanks to Miller’s longtime associate Thundercat. The bassist appears on about half of the tracks, including the single “5 Dollar Pony Rides.” Check out his McCartney-meets-hip hop lines:

Balloonerism is out now on CD, vinyl, and as a digital download (Apple Music and Amazon Music). The accompanying film is streaming now on Amazon.
