John Patitucci’s Trio Album “Spirit Fall” Showcases His Deepest Influences

John Patitucci: Spirit Fall

Electric and double bass virtuoso John Patitucci has released his highly anticipated album, Spirit Fall, with saxophonist Chris Potter and drummer Brian Blade. The 10-song collection sees the artist bringing together inspiration from the traditional New York jazz scene and influences from monumental artists he worked with.

“This trio is a true reflection of my journey as a bandleader,” Patitucci remarks. “It’s about distilling the influences of the greats I’ve played with—like Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, and Herbie Hancock—into something very personal.”

Without a chordal instrument in the mix, Patitucci has plenty of space to open up. Hear him talk about using both the electric and double bass in this clip introducing the album:

And then check out the energetic track “Lipím”:

Spirit Fall is out now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music and Amazon Music).
