John Cowan Lays It Down as The Doobie Brothers Perform “Listen to the Music” Live on Colbert
The Doobie Brothers dropped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform their classic “Listen to the Music,” and John Cowan was right in the center of it all, holding down the low end like only he can.
Armed with a Bluesman Vintage Jazz Bass, Cowan delivered a tone that was warm, round, and sat perfectly in the mix. His lines were locked in with drummer Ed Toth, giving the tune that familiar pulse that makes it impossible not to move.
Joining Cowan were Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, Michael McDonald, and John McFee. The band brought their signature blend of groove, grit, and harmony to the stage. It is always a treat when a group with this kind of history still sounds this tight.
