Jerry Jemmott’s Iconic Basslines from Aretha, B.B. King, and More Collected in New Transcription Book

Jerry Jemmott 15 Timeless Basslines

Jerry Jemmott‘s bass playing helped to elevate some of the most popular songs in recorded history, not to mention influence generations of bassists. Jaco Pastorius himself once claimed he was just doing “a bad impression of Jerry Jemmott.” Now, bassists can take a deeper look at some his work with a new transcription book by Ryan Roberts of The Bass Shed Academy.

Jerry Jemmott: 15 Timeless Basslines features note-for-note transcriptions from his catalog of work, including hits like “Think” by Aretha Franklin, “The Thrill Is Gone” by B.B. King, and “Instant Groove” by King Curtis. The “Groovemaster” himself selected the song list and endorsed the book. Each transcription has standard notation as well as tablature to make it accessible for all players. “Whether you are a beginner eager to explore the foundations of groove or an advanced player looking to refine your phrasing and articulation, this book serves as a valuable resource for expanding your bass vocabulary,” the Bass Shed Academy writes.

As if that’s not cool enough, the book features accompanying videos with Jerry Jemmott speaking about each piece, sharing his recollections and insights.

Jerry Jemmott: 15 Timeless Basslines is available now in print from The Bass Shed Academy or in Kindle format from Amazon.
