Groove Clinic: Paul Turner Live with Jamiroquai at North Sea Jazz Fest
Here’s a treat from the archives. This is Jamiroquai’s full set from the 2006 North Sea Jazz Festival. Paul Turner had only been with the band about a year at this point, but you wouldn’t know it.
He really holds it down here. Rock-solid groove, no flash for the sake of it, just that signature Jamiroquai funk. He and Derrick McKenzie are locked in all night. Paul’s tone is round and punchy, perfect for this material.
Check out “Traveling Without Moving” starting around 42:09. It’s a standout, with Paul laying down a deep, driving groove that really shows off his feel.
If you’re looking for a lesson in supporting the song while making it feel good, this is a great one to check out. Watch the full show on the North Sea Jazz Archive channel.
