The Flaming Lips Light Up Chicago: Live Photos from the Salt Shed
The Flaming Lips brought the full spectacle to the Salt Shed this week. It was wild and weird in the best possible way. Giant balloons, confetti blasts, trippy lights, the whole thing. And the band sounded locked in.
Modest Mouse kicked things off but only made it through about half their set before the show got shut down due to lightning in the area. After a weather hold that lasted around 30 minutes, the Flaming Lips hit the stage and played a full set. No momentum lost. They turned the place into a full-on psychedelic dream.
I was there to shoot the show and ended up getting to talk with Tommy McKenzie before everything went down. He is holding down the low end for the Lips and doing it with style. That interview is coming soon.
Photos below. Crank something weird while you scroll.
