Thundercat Returns With First Solo Music in 5 Years, Drops Two New Singles Ahead of Tour

Thundercat is back with his first new solo music in five and a half years. This time around, the falsetto-voiced bass virtuoso teamed up with California-based singer/songwriter Remi Wolf for the single “Children of the Baked Potato” as well as a solo effort called “I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time.” Both songs were produced with Greg Kurstin.
If you’re a fan of the Los Angeles fusion scene, then you might recognize the “Baked Potato” reference, which names the city’s hallowed jazz club. “[Remi Wolf is] a child of the Baked Potato, like me,” says Thundercat. “She knew exactly what the song needed. And it was wild to watch her make it happen. The more I listen to the song, it’s clear there was no one better I could have picked.”
The upbeat number incorporates Thundercat’s signature bass tone and unique harmonic approach. Check out the music video here:
“I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time” showcases the bass phenom’s mellower side as he reflects on a love lost. The song is accompanied by a psychedelic music video in which he tries to peer into his own brain.
“Children of the Baked Potato” and “I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time” are streaming now on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more. Thundercat will be embarking on a tour beginning October 15th in Atlanta, Georgia. See below for full dates.
