Grez Unveils 5-String Grand Tour Bass: A Short-Scale Semi-Hollow Built for the “Slightly Different”

Grez Guitars 5-string Grand Tour Bass

California’s Grez Guitars has added a new bass to its arsenal with the 5-string Grez Grand Tour Bass. The new model adds a fifth string to the design they created in collaboration with Ian Martin Allison earlier this year.

The vintage-inspired 5-string Grand Tour Bass has a short 30-inch scale. Grez builds it with a 16-inch semi-hollow Honduran Mahogany body featuring a carved spruce top. Its neck is also mahogany. Other standard features include a Macassar ebony fingerboard, a Halon bridge, and Curtis Novak H22 pickups. Grez can build to order and offers several options.

“To follow the initial 4-string short scale bass, a full set of variants are now available including 4 or 5 string configured as a low B or high C, 30” or 34” scale, fretted or fretless and right or left-handed,” the company writes. Founder Barry Grzebik adds, “The Grand Tour Bass released earlier this year really seems to have filled a void in the market and I believe this launch exemplifies my desire to be the place people come to for the ‘slightly different’ vibe not always available from the larger contemporary bands.”

The Grez 5-string Grand Tour Bass is available now with a street price of $6,300.
