Juna Serita Leads a Tight Funk Groove on Bass and Vocals in “Spark / Do Your Thing”
This was my first exposure to Juna Serita, and yeah, I am officially on board.
From the first few seconds, she pulls you straight into a deep pocket that feels effortless and confident. The groove is thick, the funk is undeniable, and the time feel never wavers. Juna handles bass and lead vocals with total authority, moving between locked in fingerstyle lines and sharp, popping slap phrases without ever breaking the flow of the song.
Gear heads will notice she is playing a five string Fender Jazz Bass through a Phil Jones Bass rig. The tone is clear, punchy, and articulate with plenty of low end definition and just the right amount of snap on the top. It is a sound that sits perfectly in a funk context and translates every nuance of her touch.
This performance is one of those reminders that groove always wins. If this video is any indication, Juna Serita is a serious player with a deep sense of funk and a voice to match. I will definitely be digging deeper into her catalog after this one.
