Thundercat Announces “Distracted,” His First New Album Since 2020

Thundercat has been drip-feeding new music over the past few years with singles like “Children of the Baked Potato” with Remi Wolf and “No More Lies” with Tame Impala. Now, he’s announced a new album called Distracted will be released on April 3rd.
It will mark his first album since 2020’s It Is What It Is, which was shaped by “grief, romantic heartbreak, and the sudden loss of his friend and collaborator Mac Miller,” a press release explains.
“If that record felt like a long exhale after trauma, Distracted feels like the restless pacing that follows: the period when life keeps happening whether you’re ready or not. It’s laughing through the pain, using humor as an aid to deal with the BS.”
The 15-track album will feature “No More Lies” and another recent single, “I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time.” Aside from Tame Impala, Thundercat collaborated with Lil Yachty, A$AP Rocky, Channel Tres and WILLOW to fill out the songs. There’s even a track with the late Mac Miller.
Though we’ve heard two tracks, Thundercat unveiled a new song called “I Did This To Myself” with Lil Yachty. True to his style, the song has funky, bubbling bass lines contrasted by his signature falsetto vocals.
Distracted is open to pre-adding on streaming platforms including Apple Music and Amazon Music.
