Watch Greensky Bluegrass Turn “Money for Nothing” into a Bluegrass Powerhouse
Sometimes a cover just makes you smile, and this one does exactly that.
Greensky Bluegrass takes on “Money for Nothing”, originally by Dire Straits, and turns it into a fast loud and downright fun bluegrass workout. The session was recorded live at Paste Studios back in February of 2020 but it only recently surfaced on the Paste YouTube channel.
The band keeps the spirit of the song intact while flipping the feel. The tempo is cranked the energy stays high and the whole thing charges forward. It feels less like a novelty cover and more like a band daring each other to see how hard they can push it.
Bass players will especially enjoy this one. Mike Devol and his upright bass do a lot of heavy lifting laying down a thick foundation. It is a great reminder of how powerful an upright can be when it is played with confidence.
