Bass of the Week: Markbass GV 5 GOG Delivers Andrew Gouché Style in a Classic 5-String

This week, we’re featuring the Markbass GV 5 GOG, a bass designed with bassist and “Godfather of Gospel” Andrew Gouché. The bass is their take on a classic that they say demonstrates their ability to make a high-quality instrument for a reasonable price.
The bass features an alder body and a bolt-on hard maple neck, each of which is finished in Blue Sky. Its 20-fret maple or rosewood fingerboard is marked by pearloid block inlays for a vintage look. Markbass fits the GV 5 GOG with their noiseless JJ-style pickups.
“The new Markbass Noiseless pickups featured on the GV GOG basses gives you a punchy, fat and round sound,” the Markbass website explains. “They are very responsive, with natural attack and with a super definite and accurate tone, without the noise produced by the 50-60 cycle hum even if selected one at time.”
Hear the bass in the capable hands of Marco Panascia, who digs into the bass’s natural slap attack:
