Throwback: Miles Davis Turns “Milestones” Loose with Dave Holland on Bass
This newly released black and white footage captures Miles Davis at the 1969 Antibes Jazz Festival, with Dave Holland on upright during a pivotal moment. The same year Miles released Bitches Brew, the band was already moving away from standard forms. Chick Corea adds electric texture, while Wayne Shorter and Jack DeJohnette round out an iconic lineup. “Milestones” serves as a framework more than a tune with Holland walking all over the place. Everyone has a moment to shine in this live performance.
This is 1969 in transition, with Holland at the center of it.
