Jon Willis started playing bass under the instruction of Beaver Felton in late 1990, and stayed as his student until 1992 when Beaver moved to start Bass Central.

Although Jon says he’s more of a hobbyist than a professional bassist, he has racked up 3000+ gigs playing with a wide variety of bands in the South Georgia area and he’s done quite a bit of studio work as a bassist for hire as well as recording with his own bands over the years.

Jon opened a music school in Savannah Ga in 2009 and kept at the helm until 2018 when he decided to hand it over to the teachers he hired, and devote more time to his own children’s education.

Jon definitely considers himself to be a student of gear and tone. An obsession that he’s used to help promote the Line 6 Helix Bass Community since 2017 through his “Dr. Tone Bass Lab” Facebook and webpage. Here he spends his time helping players around the world discover an easier path to the tone they hear in their heads.
