Last year, Kevin featured a video of Esperanza Spalding “Good Lava” at Skype Live Studio. The song is one that is on Spalding’s upcoming Emily’s D+Evolution album, scheduled for release March 4th. Now there’s an official video for the track. Can’t wait for the album!

Time to get funky, thanks to Doug Johns. Here’s Doug and his band performing “Summer Song”, which appeared on Doug’s third album, Stank. This one grooves.

It seems everytime I see a video by Federico Malaman, I’m struck with three things: his musicianship, his mastery of the bass, and how much fun he has when playing. Here’s as good as an example of all three turned up to 11, on Federico’s take on the Chinese Traditional, “Jasmine Flower.” Enjoy.

Early this morning, I learned of the sad and stunning news of David Bowie’s passing from a Facebook post by Gail Ann Dorsey. In this video from a 2002 performance in Paris, here’s Bowie backed by his long time bassist and collaborator. RIP, Mr. Bowie.

Keyboardist Ru Kojo Lemer got together with some of his musician friends in Surrey, and then took on one serious tune. Here they are performing Snarky Puppy’s “What About Me?” – blending some serious chops with some humor. The bassist in the video is Olly Seber.

Meshell Ndegeocello is a Nina Simone fan. Here’s Meshell and her band performing “See Line Woman”, which is a traditional American folk song originally that appeared on Simone’s Broadway-Blues-Ballads. Meshell’s version of the tune appeared on her tribute album to Simone, Pour une âme souveraine (“For a sovereign soul”). So great to see this performed live.

Bassist Bryan Ladd shared his latest video with us, which is a collaboration with vocalist LaToya Kennedy, guitarist Mark Bowers and drummer Jason Patterson. Here’s the group performing their cover of OutKast’s “Prototype”. So smooth, and dig that bass solo!
