I stumbled upon this video a while back and then re-discovered it later. Planet MicroJam is an interesting band with an equally interesting sound. Featuring Artie Sadtler on fretless bass, the band also includes David Fiuczynski on fretted and fretless guitar, Yazhi Guo on percussion, Freyja Garbett on microtonal keyboards, and Ayinde Webb on drums. Jono Burgess sent us this video of his duo with vocalist Sophie Aked performing a tribute to the late, great Leonard Cohen. “This was the first song Bravo Victor performed together back in 2015,” Jono shared. “In honor of the amazing musician who wrote it, we decided to film our version of it.”

Spanish bassist and composer Ismael Alcina recently released an album called Bass Life, featuring some really fantastic playing. Here’s a great video of the aptly entitled track “Solo”. Alcina creates a mysterious atmosphere before launching into a palm muted groove and building on it with a looper pedal.

Ivo Schot has released the fifth video in his Fortheloveofbass series, and it may be my favorite. This time the bassist teamed up with Dutch singer-songwriter PHOS (AKA Eveline Vroonland) to cover the James Blake song “Retrograde”. Schot covers the harmonic elements with his bass and a full pedalboard while PHOS pours her syrupy vocals overtop.
