A bass trio tribute to Michael Jackson
The Michael Jackson inspired playalongs have been pouring into Youtube over the past two days. Zawinul Syndicate with Linley Marthe: Fast City
Right up until the end of his life, Joe Zawinul could still bring it (and pick bass players). Check out the Zawinul Syndicate’s version of Weather Report’s “Fast City”, a tune originally recorded for the Jaco Pastorius-era Night Passage album. Bassist Linley Marthe is a monster on this one. For the lead, he runs his bass through an effect to take the bass an octave higher. He shares: “This is simply a jam and I have never played this song...

Christian McBride & Niels Pederson’s bass duo: Bye Bye Blackbird
This is becoming double bass week, I think. And for good reason – there’s a ton of videos of great upright players coming our way. Today we double the double bassists with this performance of “Bye Bye Blackbird” by Christian McBride and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, during the Concert for Ray Brown.
