Lesson: Blues Bass Lick Using a Minor Pentatonic

Here’s a new lesson in our ongoing series of bass lick lessons.

This time, we’ll play around with a minor pentatonic, in the key of A.

In the video below, I play the lick at full speed, followed by a demo at a reduced speed. Follow along with the video and this transcription (PDF).

If you’d like a refresher, check out this lesson on the minor pentatonic scale.

For the gear heads: I’m playing my pink Sandberg California bass with Dunlop nickel strings (gauge 45-105). I run all that into Logic Pro using the direct output on a TC Electronic RH450 amp, as well as a MXR M87 compressor.

  1. I like this as a lick unto itself. Thank you for that.
