Kala Revamps California Series U-Basses for 2016
Kala has revamped their California U-Bass series for 2016. The mini-scale, solid-body instruments will have reshaped necks and bodies, plus new placement for the fret markers on the fingerboard.
“The California body and neck have been cut and sanded to smoother, more rounded edges so they provide more comfort for the player,” The company writes. “The feel is enhanced when we coat the woods in semi-gloss, UV-cured polyester which durable and environmentally friendly. In addition, we are equipping the fretted koa models with a straight grain maple fretboard and contrasting black markers.”
Each bass in the series, which includes the Bakithi Kumalo Signature Bass, features a swamp ash body and straight grain maple neck. They come in fretless or fretted versions with options for Hawaiian Koa or flamed maple tops. Electronics include a custom LR Baggs system.
The Kala 2016 California Series will be available later this year with direct prices ranging from $999.99 to $1,199.99.

The price is steep, but U-Basses sound incredible. I love my hollow body U-Bass.
I just got a sizable bump in salary and I’ve been debating whether to get one of these or the electronic drum kit I’ve been eyeing.
