Ringo Starr Taps Nashville’s Best, Including Bassist Dennis Crouch, for “Look Up”

Ringo Starr: Look Up

Even back in his heyday with the Beatles, Ringo Starr always had a knack for country music. The drummer’s new album, Look Up, brings it to the forefront on eleven tracks featuring a who’s who of country and bluegrass.

Starr enlisted the help of T Bone Burnett to produce and co-write the record.

“The artist’s new album comes after a chance meeting with Burnett at an event in Los Angeles in 2022 (the two had first met in the 1970s), where Starr asked Burnett to write a song for an EP he was recording,” The Beatles website explains. “Taking the task to heart, Burnett returned with nine songs, all in a country vein, which happily put Starr on a path to record Look Up.”

Together they called on Billy Strings, Larkin Poe, Alison Krauss, and more to track the music. The core of the music was created by an A-list of Nashville musicians including bassist Dennis Crouch, who has played for everyone from Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello to Diana Krall and Ralph Stanley.

Crouch is called on over and over for his impeccable tone, perfect note choices, and rock steady groove. Check out “Never Let Me Go”, which features Billy Strings and seems to hint at The Beatles classic “Love Me Do”.

Look Up is out now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music and Amazon Music).
