Chick Corea’s Final Live Recordings: “Trilogy 3” with Brian Blade & Christian McBride Now Streaming

Jazz legend Chick Corea embarked on what would be his final tour in 2020. The epic outing featured a band filled out by drummer Brian Blade and bassist Christian McBride. Luckily, the powerhouse trio’s performance were documented and released in a series called Trilogy.
Candid Records and Chick Corea Productions have now released the third collection, simply called Trilogy 3.
“Widely regarded as one of Chick’s most acclaimed ensembles, this trio has consistently pushed the boundaries of jazz with technical brilliance, playful camaraderie, and deep emotional resonance,” a press release states. “Trilogy 3 invites listeners to join these masters on a journey through music that is both timeless and groundbreaking.”
The double live album’s track list includes Corea’s original tunes, jazz standards by Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell, and even an interpretation of Domenico Scarlatti’s “Sonata in D Minor”.
Trilogy 3 kicks off with a hot take of Corea’s song “Humpty Dumpty,” complete with its melody doubled by piano and bass. Hear McBride play that along with some excellent walking and a killer solo:
Trilogy 3 is streaming now on digital services like Apple Music and Amazon Music. CD and vinyl copies, with personal liner notes from Blade and McBride, will be shipping on May 30th.
