CARRTOONS Joins Kenny Beats, Kiefer, and Nate Smith in New Band FATHERS

Producer Kenny Beats, aka Kenneth Blume, has assembled a crack team of improvisers for a new project called FATHERS. The band features keyboardist Kiefer, bassist CARRTOONS (Ben Carr), and drummer Nate Smith for a groove-forward blend of hip-hop, jazz, and Brazilian vibes. They’ve just released a self-titled debut that showcases each member’s talents in both performance and writing.
“We all write, we all play at a high level, and we’re pushing each other to be better,” says CARRTOONS. “So we know going into anything that there’s going to be an inspiration and a push from everybody else, so that hunger that we all have independently becomes this super-being when we get together.”
The group’s aesthetic leans on retro jazz from the ’60s. Watch FATHERS in this “Live At Wonderland Park” video, which features interview clips and cuts from the new album.
FATHERS is out now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music, and Amazon Music).
