Mastodon Announces New Album, Shares “Snakes for Dinner” Featuring Josh Homme

Mastodon has announced a new album called Marrow Deep that will be released on August 28th. The record will mark their first studio album in five years as well as the first since the passing of founding guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds, who died in 2025 just months after leaving the band.
“Inspired by the Three Fates of Greek mythology and the fragile threads connecting life, loss, and destiny, Marrow Deep channels the intense personal experiences of the intervening years into some of the most expansive, adventurous, and emotionally resonant music of the band’s storied career,” a press release explains.
Marrow Deep will be the first album with the band’s new lineup. Original members Bill Kelliher, Brann Dailor, and Troy Sanders are now joined by guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist João Nogueira. Sanders says the group doesn’t take making music for granted.
“Bill, Brann, and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this, and we’ve got other members who are just over the moon to be in the band with us,” he said. “That’s a magical feeling that makes us keep wanting to go to band practice. It’s reminiscent of the very beginning of our band, where all members are hungry, we’re united, and excited to get to work. And we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to do this record.”
While the group recently released “Your Ghost Again,” they’re previewing the album with a new song called “Snakes for Dinner,” featuring Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme. Watch Sanders tear it up on bass in the psychedelic music video:
Marrow Deep is available for pre-order on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music, and Amazon Music).
