Yohannes Tona Lays Down the Groove on Cory Wong’s “Brixton Underground” at The Blue Note

Cory Wong has shared a live performance of “Brixton Underground” featuring saxophonist Joshua Redman, recorded during his 2025 residency at the iconic Blue Note New York.

The band is stacked, with Taylor Eigsti on Rhodes and keyboards, Kevin Gastonguay on organ and keyboards, Yohannes Tona on bass, and Petar Janjic on drums.  Tona is playing the four string Jazz style bass we have seen him use regularly, although we have yet to pin down the builder. He is running through an Aguilar rig and sounds fantastic throughout the performance. His pocket with Janjic gives the band a serious foundation, and the drummer is absolutely hitting.

The performance appears on Wong’s new album, “On A Random Tuesday: Live At The Blue Note,” featuring Redman. Check out Tona holding down the low end at one of jazz’s most iconic rooms.
