Mane Custom Bass Teams With P-Funk’s Lige Curry for the KJ5 Standard
Mane Custom Bass has announced another artist collaboration with bassist, producer, and longtime Parliament-Funkadelic member Lige Grant Curry. The P-Funk star now has a KJ5 Standard is described as delivering “the precision, playability, and tone required by a funk master.”
The five-string bass has a 35-inch scale with 18mm string spacing. Its Ash body is finished in red and complemented by a maple neck fitted with black block inlays. A pair of Jazz bass pickups are matched to a stock 3-band preamp, though Mane offers an upgrade to Bartolini electronics.
Curry was born in Flint, Michigan, and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He officially joined Parliament Funkadelic in 1979 as a studio backup singer, taking over the bass role after the departure of Rodney “Skeet” Curtis. (Read our 2017 interview with him for his story.)
