Mike Dirnt Is Selling “American Idiot” Tour Basses and a Fender Used to Record “Nimrod”

Attention Green Day fans: Mike Dirnt has teamed up with Reverb to sell off many of his basses, amps, clothes, and more through The Official Mike Dirnt of Green Day Reverb Shop. The shop, which launches on September 9th, will feature basses from his career, including stage-played signatures and studio mainstays.
“I’ve found some amazing guitars and basses over the years. When you’re on tour for a long time, you’re always looking for cool gear. You’re always thinking about what could be on the next record or what do I need to play tonight or what can I find that sparks inspiration,” said Dirnt. “Every guitar, every bass, every amp has something different. You pick up a guitar and strum it and you think, there’s songs in this thing and I’m going to extract those songs. Then once you feel like you’ve gotten the songs or the recording out of it, it’s time to let it go and give it to the next person.”
The full range of the shop will only be revealed when it launches, but Reverb has given us a few highlights. In the bass department will be two American Idiot-era Fender Mike Dirnt Signature Precisions used on tour, a signed Fender bass used to record Nimrod, an original Gibson Grabber that was smashed by Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool, and a 1962 Fender Precision bass in Fiesta Red that Dirnt used often in the studio.
“It’s a special bass. This thing really plays incredibly,” he said.
Dirnt’s amps on the block include several Mesa Boogies and one fo the first Ampeg SVT-810 cabinets he purchased with his first Green Day paycheck and used on the Dookie tour. “It has no speakers in it right now, but the cabinet is fully intact with all of its roadworn awesomeness,” the bassist explains.
The clothing for sale goes back decades with jackets and pants from previous album tours. Proceeds from the clothing in his shop will go to charity.
